Williamsburg’s chocoholics will need to find a new place to get their fix.

MAD about Chocolate, the chocolate bakery and café located on Armistead Avenue, is closing at the end of the day Friday, according to owner Mike Riordan.

While the café is closing for economic reasons, Riordan said chocolate fans have not seen the last of MAD about Chocolate.

“We’ll be back in some form or another, hopefully in the Williamsburg area,” Riordan said.

He’s looking at other possible locations in which to reopen the business, he added. He’s also considering other business models, such as becoming a community kitchen that provides desserts for other restaurants.

“We’re formulating as we go,” Riordan said.

He did not provide a time frame for reopening MAD about Chocolate.

MAD about Chocolate used fine Belgian and French chocolate in its baked goods, claiming to never use preservatives, artificial sweeteners or processed fats.

Riordan purchased the bakery in March 2016 from Marcel and Connie Desaulniers. He is a member of the Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance, and his wife, Karen Riordan, is the President and CEO.

The café will be open through 6 p.m. Friday, and will offer “deep discounts” in a closing sale on many items, Riordan said.
