Filling up your tank today? You might notice that gas is getting pricier.
As of Monday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Hampton Roads was $2.48. Gas is 13 cents more per-gallon this week than it was two weeks ago, and 36 cents more than it was in April 2017, according to AAA.
The average price of gas in Hampton Roads is only slightly more than the average for the rest of the state. On Monday, the average gallon of gas cost $2.47 in the commonwealth, marking an 11-cent increase in two weeks.
Drivers in Virginia aren’t the only ones feeling the pressure in their wallets.
Across the country, gas prices are rising. The average price for a gallon of gas in the United States is currently $2.66, marking an 11-cent increase on average from two weeks ago, according to the AAA.
“Today, only 38 percent of U.S. gas stations are selling gasoline for $2.50 or less and that percentage will likely dwindle in coming weeks,” AAA Tidewater spokesman Georjeane Bluming said. “The holiday weekend, strong demand and preparation for summer gasoline are all factors that have driven and will continue to drive higher gas prices into early spring.”
