WILLIAMSBURG — Alewerks Brewing Company has announced the release of a new lager to support Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg.

On Saturday, May 7, Alewerks will launch, “Nailed It!,” an American premium lager created as part of a larger fundraiser called “House That Small Business Built,” which was spearheaded by Consociate Media in order to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of this campaign,” said Michael Claar, operations director at Alewerks. “One of the most important things in the world is having somewhere safe and affordable to live.”

According to a release from Consociate Media, each Habitat house costs $125,000. This dollar amount is generally too high for a singular small business to fund in its entirety. Instead, the House That Small Business Built will fund these homes as a result of donations made by multiple local small businesses.

The house which this initiative will support is set to be constructed in Charles City County. The local family to whom the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home will be sold nwill purchase it through Habitat’s first-time Homebuyer Program.

“Houses aren’t always affordable,” said Stephanie Heinatz of Consociate Media. “Too many families have to choose each and every day whether to pay their mortgage or medical bills, whether to buy groceries or pay rent.”

Families who qualify for Habitat’s first-time homebuyer program purchase the home with a zero-interest equivalent mortgage. Future homeowners will need to complete volunteer hours, including on the construction of the home which they purchase.

According to Heinatz, this house will be the first of four planned homes to be constructed in Charles City County, starting in 2023.

Alewerks will donate $1 per every sale of a four-pack of its Nailed It! brew to the House That Small Business Built. Additionally, it will donate $1 from every pint of draft sold during the initiative.

The release of Nailed It! will be celebrated at the brewery’s main location, 189B Ewell Road in Williamsburg, and its L.A.B. Taproom, located at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets, 5711-36 Richmond Road. Both locations will have four-packs for sale and on draft, with Alewerks doubling its donation to celebrate its launch on May 7. Nailed It! will also be sold at Total Wine locations in Newport News, Richmond, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach, with the Newport News store (12551 Jefferson Ave.) hosting a tasting on May 13 from 4-7 p.m.

Nailed It! is described as a crisp, light lager which Claar described as a “throwback to most people’s first beer.”

Alewerks also said it plans on aiding in the construction of the Charles City County home.

The brewery is supporting the House That Small Business Built in conjunction with Philips Energy, The Local Scoop Magazine, and Williamsburg Winery.
