JAMESTOWN — The staff at Billsburg Brewery are looking to kick off the warmer spring weather by celebrating a style of beer that palates particularly well with warm spring days.

The brewery’s third annual Pilsner Invitational set for Saturday April 9 on the Billsburg property, 2054 Jamestown Rd. from 12 to 4 p.m.

For those who are not beer drinkers, pilsner is a style of lager known for its pale, golden appearance and perhaps more importantly its crisp and refreshing taste.

Thirty breweries from around Virginia will be on hand with their best versions of America’s favorite beer style in hopes of bringing home this year’s best-in-show award.

“It’s going to be really fun this year because we were able to get breweries from all over to come,” Billsburg’s General Manager Eric Williams said of the event. “It is going to be such a good mix. It is not just the Williamsburg folks. We got breweries out of Gloucester, Virginia Beach, Richmond to all jump aboard this year.”

Some of the breweries on the list include St. George Brewing, Gloucester Brewing, Benchtop and Smartmouth. Click here to see the complete list.

In addition to the beer, Williams said that there will be local food truck favorites such as Old City Barbeque, Nosh and the Hungry Pug on hand. There will also be live music from the Michael Clark Band beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Tickets for the invitational are $40 and and can be purchased through the Billsburg website or by calling the brewery at (757) 926-0981.
