Boat capsizes on York River; 1 rescued, 1 still missing

JAMES CITY — One man was rescued and another is missing after their jon boat capsized Tuesday in the York River.

The boat overturned around 2 p.m. near the Croaker Landing dock near York River State Park. Two James City County men boating nearby heard the endangered men yelling for help and were able to rescue one of them, but the other man disappeared underwater and did not resurface, said Capt. Jamie Green with Virginia Marine Police.

The rescued man was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital in Newport News, he said.

Crews including divers searched into the evening for the missing man.

James City County Fire and Police boats and divers, as well as crews from the Coast Guard, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, U.S. Navy, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Life Evac, York County, Camp Peary Gloucester and Abingdon were aiding the search for the missing man.

The boat was recovered and is now at the dock on the edge of the river, Green said.
