Unused and out-of-date medications can pose a danger to babies, children and teenagers alike, and now Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is accepting the medicines for disposal.
The hospital has installed a permanent drop-off receptacle for people looking to dispose of unused and out-of-date medicines including prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, according to a Sentara news release.
People can drop off the medications in the green receptacle at the entrance of the hospital’s pharmacy, no questions asked, the release said.
“We are committed to doing everything we can to help get unused prescriptions and medications out of homes and off the streets safely,” said David Masterson, president of the Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.
Anyone with unused prescription drugs can drop off the medicine Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the release.
“While we have participated in annual community drug takeback [sic] days, we are now proud to provide our community with the year-round opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and make their homes and communities safer,” Masterson said.
Certain medical products are not accepted, including inhalers, needles, lotions, liquids and illegal drugs, the release said.
