NORFOLK — The Norfolk Police Department and city’s school district are on alert following rumored neighborhood threats near P.B. Young and Tidewater Park elementary schools.
On Friday morning the NPD released a statement saying the department is aware of “a social media post that rumored violence in two Norfolk communities.”
Parents were notified of a potential threat in the vicinity of the elementary schools, according to a statement released by Norfolk Public Schools.
“It’s important to understand that these are unconfirmed rumors,” the release states.
The NPD wrote in a news release that they have investigated the circumstances surrounding the rumors are monitoring the situation; however, they have not found a credible threat.
A social media search found several parents voicing their concerns regarding student safety.
“A child over heard two men talking about Friday they gonna be shooting them two parks up,” one parent wrote on Facebook, adding that they were unsure whether the threats were made against the school or in the neighborhood.
