A shooting inside a Second Street auto shop led to an hours-long standoff between police and the suspect, who was taken into custody just after 12:20 p.m. According to police, the suspect barricaded himself inside Ebby’s Auto Painting/ Collision Shop in York County Tuesday morning after shooting an employee just before 9 a.m. See the photos here. ‘Humble with a bright future:’ Family remembers 21-year-old killed in I-64 crash

Axel Gabriel Quintana Cruz had just turned 20 when he packed up his life in Puerto Rico to chase a better future. On July 23rd, while on his way to work Cruz lost his life, and his father received a knock on the door from police. The senior Cruz’s vehicle had struck a tree on the edge of Interstate 64, and his now-21-year-old son – named after him – had died at the scene. Read more here.

Williamsburg shooting suspect charged with attempted murder

Michael Sean Taylor, 40, of Hampton, is facing charges of attempted first degree murder, shooting into an occupied building or dwelling and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office news release. Police say Taylor entered Ebby’s Auto Painting & Collision Repair on Second Street at 8:56 a.m. looking for an employee he had a personal dispute with. Taylor shot the man multiple times, the release said. Read more here.

Teen lifeguards’ ‘incredible’ rescue saves 5-year-old from drowning

Sitting near the lifeguard’s stand on July 22, Diane Justice heard someone yell “child!” Justice looked around to see a man carrying an unconscious 5-year-old out of the water. For at least 20 minutes, the 33-year-old watched two young lifeguards perform CPR on the boy before a LifeEvac helicopter carried him away to the hospital. Read more here.

New BBQ joint opens on York Street

Historic Triangle residents can now get their fix for barbecue at a new restaurant at the old site of Yorkshire Steak and Seafood. Old City BBQ will opened to the public Friday morning at 11, and the trio of owners are planning an official grand opening this weekend. Barbecue joint owners Vernon Geddy IV and brothers Mason and Gardiner Brooks say they are all about eating the whole hog — and having friends to share it with. Read more here.
