An 18-year-old Williamsburg man is facing several charges after he allegedly stole alcohol in February, then assaulted a person and led officers on a chase around Dunkin Donuts in June.
Sha’keem Antonius Brown is charged with two counts of petit larceny, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery, according to Williamsburg-James City County General District Court records.
Police first arrested Brown April 4 in connection to two separate incidents at an ABC store on Richmond Road, court documents say.
Police believe Brown and two other people entered the ABC store on Feb. 19 and stole several bottles of alcohol, documents state.
Store employees notified Williamsburg Police of the alleged theft.
On Feb. 25, ABC employees reported another theft at the Richmond Road store. Brown allegedly walked into the store with another male and stole several bottles of alcohol, according to a criminal complaint.
During the investigation, police found social media posts showing Brown wearing the same clothes as he was on the dates of the alleged larcenies, posing with the same people, and holding bottles of liquor that matched what was stolen, documents show.
Police arrested Brown April 4 after finding the social-media posts, documents state.
Brown was out on bond for the larceny charges when the alleged assault on June 11 occurred, documents state.
Police responded to the area of Mount Vernon and Richmond roads for a report of an assault on June 11, according to a criminal complaint.
When police arrived, they found Brown and two other people, a man and a woman, outside the Westgate Hotel, documents state.
Court documents state Brown “took off running” when they asked to speak with him about the alleged assault.
“We ran around the Dunkin Donuts and I finally grabed [sic] him and placed him under arrest,” the complaint states.
The male who was assaulted later identified Brown as the assailant, the complaint states.
Brown is scheduled for arraignment on the most recent charges June 27 at 8:30 a.m. He will appear again in court June 29 for a hearing relating to the two counts of petit larceny.
