NORFOLK — A Navy sailor who’d been missing from the USS Wasp for a week turned himself in to police in Colorado Springs, officials said.
Gage Brady, 21, was reported missing on June 13, two days after he was last seen leaving the USS Wasp. His phone was found outside of an Ocean View 7-Eleven.
Naval Criminal Investigative Service spokesman Ed Buice said that Gage Brady turned himself into police in Colorado Springs, saying that he’d decided to leave Virginia and gave his phone to a stranger so he wouldn’t be tracked.
“When questioned about his UA (unauthorized absence) status, Brady told CPD officers he just decided to drive to Colorado and gave his phone to an unknown individual so he would not be tracked,” Buice wrote in an email.
Gage Brady’s mother, Kathy Brady wrote that her son was found safely in Colorado, and that the Navy was allowing his family to escort him home.
“At this point we don’t have any answers and ask for prayers for safe travels,” Kathy Brady wrote on her personal Facebook page. “We may not share a lot of details even when we do get answers but I know those who love us will understand.”
