A James City County man accused of using 10 blank checks to steal $3000 from his employer, plus another $200 in fraudulent credit card charges, was arrested while on the job, police said Wednesday.

Anthony P. Mennella, a 28-year-old man, was taken into custody May 2, while working at ATCO Industrial Fasteners located at Hankins Industrial Park in Toano, according to James City County Police Department spokeswoman, Stephanie Williams.

Menella was also found carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

According to the complainant’s statement, police say Mennella, an employee at ATCO, allegedly stole some blank checks, printed them made out to himself and then cashed them.

The complainant further told police, Mennella had used a company credit card without permission.

All told, police believe Mennella forged 10 checks totaling more than $3,000 and 11 credit card charges totaling more than $200 on the company’s credit card to steal from the business.

Mennella is charged with two counts of forgery, two counts of uttering and two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Because Mennella had a concealed weapon, he was further charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

Mennella was issued a summons for the concealed weapon. He was released on bail for the other charges, pending a hearing at Williamsburg-James City County General District court May 16.
