NORFOLK — Drivers heading toward Naval Station Norfolk this weekend may need to find an alternative route.

From 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Monday, the Virginia Department of Transportation will be doing construction on Hampton Boulevard. The thoroughfare will be closed in both directions from 90th Street to Greenbrier Avenue.

Traffic on Hampton Boulevard has often become backed up due to truck traffic and the 80,000 cars coming and going to Naval Station Norfolk every day. The construction is part of  VDOT’s “I-564 Intermodal Connector Project,” which aims to decrease congestion between Naval Station Norfolk and Norfolk International Terminals.
