James City County has tapped Amy Jordan as its new Economic Development Director beginning April 17, county officials announced Friday.
Jordan, a Peninsula native, formerly served as the Redevelopment Manager for the City of Hampton’s Department of Economic Development.
“I am excited to join a dynamic team and implement the economic development vision by generating new development opportunities in the county that continue to enhance the economic growth and quality of life for its residents and businesses,” Jordan said.
County Administrator Bryan Hill added, “As we continue to reshape our vision for James City County through our new Strategic Plan, Ms. Jordan and the department of economic development will be a major player in bringing businesses to James City County.”
While serving in Hampton, Jordan coordinated over $1 billion in public and private investment for the city.
She managed several strategic projects including the redevelopment of Coliseum Mall into Peninsula Town Center, the expansion of the Sentara CarePlex campus area and completion of the Power Plant of Hampton Roads development, along with numerous commercial, residential, recreation and infrastructure projects.
Prior to joining the City of Hampton, Jordan worked in the Planning Departments of Suffolk and Newport News.
She has been locally recognized as one of 10 leading young business women under the age of thirty on the Virginia Peninsula. In 2013, Inside Business’s recognized her as Top 40 under 40, as a result of her accomplishments in economic development in the Hampton Roads region.
Jordan has a master’s degree in Administration from Regent University and a bachelor’s in Political Science from Christopher Newport University.
“There is nothing more meaningful than seeing the imprint you are able to create through proper planning and development and I look forward to continuing that momentum,” she said.
