While some were at home or with friends while watching the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons on Super Bowl Sunday, others were getting into trouble with the Virginia State Police.
The VSP conducted more than 2,500 traffic stops and assists from Feb. 5 to the morning of Feb. 6. Nearly 12 percent of those happened in the Hampton Roads area.
Of the 47 DUI arrests made by the VSP on Super Bowl Sunday, seven were in the Hampton Roads area. The most DUI arrests occurred in Northern Virginia, totaling 21 in the Fairfax and Culpepper areas.
The VSP issued 1,185 speeding tickets, with a little more than 24 percent given to drivers in the Hampton Roads area. There were also nine seat belt violations issued in the seven cities.
Across the state, 402 drivers needed help with disabled vehicles on Super Bowl Sunday. The VSP answered 66 disabled vehicle calls in the Hampton Roads area.
There were no fatal crashes reported across Virginia during that time frame.
