Photos: William & Mary students lobby legislators in Richmond

Sen. Tommy Norment, Jr in a session of the Senate Finance Education subcommittee said he'd been introduced earlier that morning in the Virginia Senate as the Senator from William & Mary. President Taylor Reveley III spoke on behalf of the College of William & Mary and a consortium of other higher education institutions. President Reveley III said the institutions were grateful to the state for its contributions, but schools still need more need-based financial aid, salary support for faculty, and more flexibility for the administration. Students from the College of William & Mary made the trek to Richmond on Tuesday to lobby state legislators on issues that matter to them.

They went to the capital to lobby for more need-based financial support. They met Gov. Terry McAuliffe and his dog. They urged legislators to maintain funding for institutions of higher education. And they registered concerns about possible legislative action that might affect how many students the college accepts from out-of-state.

Here are some scenes from the day, captured by WYDaily’s Steve Roberts, Jr.
