As the Southside is preparing to get blasted with snow, closings and cancellations have already been announced.
While a foot of snow is a possibility, 8-12 inches is more likely, the National Weather Service said.

- Hampton Roads Transit has suspended all public transportation services for Saturday and Sunday.
Virginia Beach
- All community recreation centers, parks and park facilities are closed through Sunday.
- All Virginia Beach public libraries are closed through Sunday.
- The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is closed through Sunday.
- Virginia Beach Animal Care & Adoption Center is closed through Sunday.
- The Virginia Beach Voter Registrar’s Office will be closed on Saturday for in-person absentee voting for the special election to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10 to fill a vacancy in the House of Delegates 85th House District.
- All three visitor information centers (The main visitor information center located at the entrance to the resort area, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Visitor Information Center and the Chesapeake Bay Center at First Landing State Park) locations are closed through Sunday.
- No inmate visitation on Sunday at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
Norfolk
- Old Dominion University has closed its campus through Monday night.
- All Norfolk recreational centers and libraries will be closed through the weekend and all city events have been canceled.
- Street parking in Downtown Norfolk has been suspended until 2 p.m. Monday. Three parking garages are open for free parking for residents.
- Nauticus and the USS Wisconsin are closed Saturday and Sunday.
- The MacArthur Memorial will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.
- The Chrysler Museum of Art, the Chrysler Museum Perry Glass Studio, and the Historic Houses downtown are closed Saturday. All Glass Studio classes and workshops are postponed.
- The Salvation Army Kroc Center is closed Saturday.
