The largest boat in the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry fleet, the Pocahontas, will be taken out of service Tuesday and remain out of service for approximately two weeks.
According to a news release from the Virginia Department of Transportation, the Pocahontas will be retired for two weeks while it undergoes maintenance. The Williamsburg and Surry vessels will continue to carry motorists across the James River using the normal ferry schedule.
Passengers should be aware that while the Pocahontas is in the shipyard, there will be a reduction in capacity of approximately 20 vehicles per hour for daily ferry operations, the release stated. VDOT advises regular ferry passengers to plan additional time into their daily commute.
