A 34-year-old man has been charged with aggravated sexual battery after allegedly kissing an 11-year-old girl.

James City County Police believe Erman H. Aranda-Barahona, of James City County, kissed an 11-year-old and touched her inappropriately over her clothing, according to police department spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

The alleged incident occurred on Aug. 8 and was reported to police by the victim’s parents on Aug. 9, after reading text messages on the victim’s phone, Williams said.

Aranda-Barahona was an acquaintance of the victim, but Williams said she did not know if the man was also a family acquaintance.

After an investigation involving Child Protective Services, police obtained an arrest warrant for Aranda-Barahona on Nov. 21.

Police arrested him the same day, and transported him to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg.
