Prepare for a weekend-long celebration of art and energy in Norfolk as the NEON Festival takes over Granby Street.
The second-annual festival kicked off Thursday night with an artist talk by local boy Brian Bress and glass blowing by Julia and Robin Rogers at the Chrysler Museum.
The rest of the weekend holds murals, music and madness.
The festival is an annual celebration of the NEON District, a special place in Norfolk where the whole neighborhood is a canvas, said Charles Rasputin, conceptual artist and creative director at Work Release.
Although the neighborhood near Granby Street and Brambleton Avenue only spans a few blocks, Rasputin hopes its energy will travel and inspire people throughout the rest of the city.
“This shouldn’t just be about this neighborhood. This should be about the new energy of Norfolk – always. All of us together, however we do it, can be awesome,” Rasputin said.
