Virginia Beach is getting funky with it.
The City is hosting a free, three-day FunkFest Beach Party this weekend at 24th Street. Performances include funk groups such as The Bar-Kays, Cameo and Strictly Bizzness, which is slated for a Prince tribute at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27. Artists will cover music originally from James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton and the Ohio Players.
“Preferred viewing” passes are available through Ticketmaster for around $40. A schedule can be viewed here. Food, dance contests and merchandise sales will also be a part of the event, which began Friday night and ends Sunday, Aug. 28.
FunkFest Beach Party is hosted by Beachevents, a program by the City that offers concerts, festival and other entertainment at the Oceanfront.
