A morning of steady drizzle, followed by an afternoon of predicted thunderstorms, has led to Fourth of July event cancellations and relocations.
According to a release from the York County Public Information Office, all Yorktown Fourth of July celebration evening activities, including the Yorktown Fireworks, have been cancelled due to saturated conditions on the Yorktown Battlefield, which was the designated parking area for Monday evening’s events.
In order to protect the natural and cultural resources of the Yorktown Battlefield, the release stated, the National Park Service has made the determination to prohibit parking because vehicles could damage the grounds. Yorktown’s fireworks will not be rescheduled.
Colonial Williamsburg recently posted on Facebook that “due to field conditions” locations for two of Monday’s events have changed: The Tug-of-War contest at 11:30 a.m. will now be held in front of the Courthouse and the Colonial Faire from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. will now take place inside the Raleigh Tavern.
