Local small businesses of the year contend for regional honor

One local company will be named the region’s Small Business of the Year next week by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. The winner will be chosen from six finalists that were previously named Small Business of the Year for their respective city.

Those contenders are:

  • Chesapeake: Retnauer Baynes Associates LLC
  • Norfolk: Mid Atlantic Maritime Academy
  • Peninsula: Commonwealth Exterminating
  • Portsmouth: Smiley’s Heating and Cooling
  • Suffolk: Suffolk Eye Physicians & Surgeons
  • Virginia Beach: Image Business Interiors

The Chamber of Commerce will present the awards at noon Tuesday at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, in partnership with The Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads.

The Young Entrepreneur award will also be announced. The finalists are Max Greenhood, president and creative director of RocketBike, and Zack Miller, founder of Hatch.

In addition, Shannon Kane, president and chief marketing partner of EWR Management Group and a Virginia Beach city councilwoman, will receive the G&W Leadership Award.
