Five South Hampton Roads swimmers were named Virginia Swimming Swimmers of the Year for the past season, marking the first time in history so many local swimmers earned the award in the same year, according to TIDE Swimming.
Kayleigh Duffy, Samuel Quarles, Alex Neff and Callie Dickinson from TIDE Swimming and Cason Wilburn from the East Coast Aquatic Team were chosen for their achievements during the 2015 long-course and 2015-16 short-course seasons.
TIDE Swimming had four Virginia Swimmers of the Year in the previous 12 years combined.
Here are the achievements of this year’s class:
Kayleigh Duffy, TIDE Swimming, 10-year-old women’s division
- VA Swim Record: 50-yard freestyle
- VA Swim Meet Records: 50-meter freestyle, 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle
