Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation released the following list of events for May:
The following events are free and open to the public:
- K-9 Karnival, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 14, Red Wing Park
- A day for the dogs and their owners. Includes demonstrations, competitions and displays.
- Bike to Work Day/Ride with the Mayor, 8 a.m. May 20, Princess Anne Recreation Center to City Hall
- May is National Bike Month. On May 20, the public is invited to join Mayor Will Sessoms on a Bike to Work Day ride. He will lead a short ride from the Princess Anne Recreation Center, 1400 Nimmo Parkway, to City Hall, 2401 Courthouse Drive.
- Bike Rodeo, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 28, Williams Farm Park
- Families are invited to Williams Farm Park for activities with a focus on bicycle safety. There’ll be bicycle skills stations, interactive games, bike decorating and a parade. Bring your children’s bicycles and helmets.
The following events require recreation center membership or a day pass and registration unless otherwise noted:
- Rock Wall Family Fun, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 6, Seatack Rec Center, a ges 6 and up
- Two belayers will help the climbers up and down, so all experience-levels are welcome. $4 per participant.
- Mommy & Me Mother’s Day Tea Party, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. May 7, Williams Farm Rec Center, all ages
- Dress as your favorite character for this special Mother’s Day Tea Party. Tea, other refreshments and light snacks will be provided. Register by May 4. $6 per participant.
- Mother’s Day Craft, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 9, Seatack Rec Center, ages 8-14
- Create a homemade gift for mom. Supplies provided. No additional cost.
- Builder’s Bash, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 13, Great Neck Rec Center, ages 7-10
- Take your imagination on a ride with Legos, K’nex, Goldie Blox and other building templates. Kits will be provided. You bring the imagination. Pizza and drinks included. $7 per participant.
- Family Movie Night at the Farm, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 13, Williams Farm Rec Center, all ages
- Friday night dinner and a big screen showing of “The Good Dinosaur,” with pizza and snacks. Cost is $6 per participant.
- Float-a-Rama, 1 p.m. to 4 pm May 15, Bayside Rec Center, all ages
- Floats so big the pool is devoted just to them. Enjoy Claw Daddy, Sky Totter, Space Mountain and more. No additional cost.
- Memorable Memorial Day Indoor Picnic, 6 p.m. to 8 pm May 27, Williams Farm Rec Center, ages 6-12
- Bring a brown bag lunch for dinner and a blanket for an indoor picnic with bingo and a movie. Drinks and cookies provided. No additional cost.
- Movie Night in the Pool: “Goosebumps,” 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 27, Princess Anne Rec Center, all ages
- Watch while floating in the pool. Swimmers ages 9 and under must be directly supervised by someone 16 or older. No additional cost.
