Public hearing, vote set for relocation of Old Beach Farmers Market

VIRGINIA BEACH — The City Council will vote Tuesday on relocating the Old Beach Farmers Market, but not before residents chime in.

A public hearing is scheduled on the proposal, which would move the market from its 19th Street home of nearly a decade one block over to 18th Street. The Council will vote after the hearing.

Resort Administrator Mike Eason has said the market’s current location requires the closure of a main thoroughfare to the Convention Center. That road, 19th Street, could see increased traffic in coming years as developers construct an 18,000-seat arena nearby.

The public hearing is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday in City Council chambers.

See the Farmers Market’s website for its Saturday schedule.
