Music teachers in Hampton Roads will be recognized this year as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of Music in Our Schools Month.
The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will consider nominations by the public for outstanding music teachers, who will be recognized at a VSO concert as part of the National Association for Music Education’s annual monthlong celebration.
All nominees will be recognized in VSO’s program book and social media pages, and will receive a certificate and two free tickets to a concert in March.
The top 30 nominated teachers will be invited to attend a backstage meet-and-greet with VSO musicians.
“The VSO is excited once again to recognize and celebrate the incredible music teachers of our area in partnership with Music in the Schools Month,” said VSO President and Executive Director Karen Philion in a news release. “By honoring these educators, we are honoring all they do for our children.”
Citizens wishing to nominate their favorite music teachers need to submit a nomination form, essay and tax-deductible $30 entry donation to Katie Fenimore at Virginia Symphony Orchestra, 150 Boush St., Suite 201, Norfolk, VA 23510.
Nominations will not be accepted after Monday. The top 30 teachers will be notified by Feb. 23.

York County Woman Makes President’s List at Jacksonville State University
Karin Mans, of Yorktown, earned a 4.0 grade point average at Jacksonville State University last fall.
She was named to the fall 2014 President’s List at the university, located in Jacksonville, AL.
To be named to the President’s List at JSU, a student must earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the semester.
