Learn Something New
The College of William & Mary’s Law School is hosting a program on the Magna Carta’s importance to our legal tradition at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. This special lecture is free and open to the public.
The James City County Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a free open house to help residents start 2015 with a new fitness routine. Instructors will be on hand to discuss classes and formats, those interested can participate in mini classes throughout the morning, and Sentara nurses will administer health screenings. The Sinfonicron Light Opera Company is celebrating its 50th season with a performance of The Pirates of Penzance at Phi Beta Kappa Hall. The show opens today, with performances at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The troupe from the College of William & Mary has matinee performances scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Ryan Shupe & the Rubberband is coming to the Kimball Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday with special guest Tsuki Bomb. Buy advance tickets for $18 and tickets on the day of the show for $22.
The Williamsburg Symphonia presents Cabaret & Cocktails, a Pops concert that will feature popular songs from the ‘20s to the ‘50s. Create a custom pillow at The Velvet Rocker on Olde Towne Road in James City County. Artists can choose from a variety of stencils and all-natural chalk paints to create a personalized 18”x18” pillow case for $30 from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Watch a Game
Get in free to the Tribe men’s basketball game against Northeastern University, scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. Bring a new pair of children’s or adult’s shoes to gain free entry. All shoes collected will be donated to the Williamsburg Salvation Army.
Wear purple to the Tribe women’s basketball game against Hofstra University at 2 p.m. Sunday to help promote awareness of Alzheimer’s disease. Those who show up wearing purple will gain free admission to the game.
