The shelter participated in #GivingTuesday, an online fundraising campaign Dec. 2, posting on social media, promoting “unselfie” photos and encouraging donations.
New Town Dental Arts, along with Board and Auxiliary member Jim Mundy, stepped up to match funds. The dental practice recently presented a check for its $1,500 matching donation.

Houghland Joins Chesapeake Bank
Chesapeake Bank has a new senior vice president and commercial loan officer.
Leigh Houghland, a local native, has assumed the role. In his last year of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Houghland has worked in the field for 16 years.

“We are very pleased to have Leigh on board,” said Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey M. Szyperski in a news release. “He will be instrumental in Chesapeake’s Williamsburg market commercial lending development.”
Houghland also serves as vice chairman of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance, where he is slated to be chair in October, as well as vice chairman of Metropolitan YMCA board of directors and on the board of directors for the Kiwanis Club.
