A local continuing care retirement community is honoring National Memory Screening Day next week with free and confidential services to residents.
Williamsburg Landing will offer memory screenings Tuesday in its Alvin P. Anderson Auditorium. The screenings, given by healthcare professionals, run from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. by appointment.
Each appointment should last five to 10 minutes, and will include a series of questions and tasks.
The screenings are intended for anyone concerned about memory loss, who think they are at risk because of family history, are experiencing warning signs of dementia – forgetting names and events, asking repetitive questions, loss of verbal or written skills, confusion and personality changes – or whose family and friends have noticed changes.
The results of the screenings are not diagnosis, but those who score poorly are encouraged to pursue a full medical exam.
