Seven local eateries faced off Saturday for top honors in the New Town Chili N’ Tunes event.
About 300 residents took refuge from poor weather in Legacy Hall, feasting on unlimited chili before a concert by Journey tribute band Trial by Fire.
The judges – James City County Administrator Bryan Hill, Arts Coordinator Terry Buntrock and Phil Cabibi – named Opus 9 Steakhouse as the winner of the chili contest.
Two Drummers Smokehouse took home the People’s Choice award for the evening.
Other institutions vying for the top chili title were Center Street Grill, Hogarth’s Bistro, Honey Butter’s Kitchen, Sticks Kebob Shop and Trader Joe’s.
Chili N’ Tunes is new to a slate of events in the shopping district this year, which expanded on programs from past years while adding the chili festival and a concert by national country music group Highway 101 in July.
