To serve the community with cultural programs and literary materials, the Williamsburg Regional Library relies on its friends.
The Friends of the Williamsburg Regional Library, a fundraising and support organization, recently presented a check for $31,730 to the library’s director, Genevieve S. Owens.
The group raises money through membership dues and the annual spring book sale, which is scheduled for April 24 to 26. It also earns funds through ongoing sales from the Book Nooks, stocked with gently-used books, magazines, DVDs and videos, CDs and records at the Norge and Williamsburg locations.
In 2013, the Friends of the Williamsburg Regional Library presented more than $102,000 in total grants to the library.
The recent grant, awarded at the October board meeting, helped fund programs including the “Virginia Symphony Presents” concert series, the Jennifer O’Connell author visit and the 2014 summer reading program.
