Two local high school graduates have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Andrew Lemmon and David Lewis from Boy Scout Troop 242 earned the honor, which requires Scouts accrue at least 21 merit badges, demonstrate leadership and complete an extensive service project. It is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scout program.

Both Lemmon and Lewis rose through the ranks of the Newport News troop, and were recognized for their efforts at an August ceremony at a Court of Honor at Knights of Columbus Downer Memorial Hall.

Lemmon, who graduated from Jamestown High School in June, is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, the national honor society for the Boy Scouts of America. For his service project he led the construction of a learning garden at the Williamsburg Parent Cooperative Preschool in James City County, including installing a paver patio and pergola.

Lemmon now attends Roanoke College in Salem.

Lewis completed his service project at Tabb High School, where he graduated from in June. He created an outdoor classroom for the York County school.

He is a now a student at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
