Speakers, Signings and Teachings

PechaKucha comes to Yorktown on Saturday. PechaKucha is a fast-paced presentation style, where creative minds can speak on any topic but are limited to 20 image slides for 20 seconds each. Doors open at Garden of Zen Yoga Studio at 6 p.m. with presentations starting at 7 p.m. Read more about the local PechaKucha series in the Hometown section.

Resident and William & Mary faculty member Will McIntosh will sign copies of his latest sci-fi epic “Defenders,” starting at 11 a.m. at the William & Mary Bookstore. McIntosh’s last novel “Love Minus Eighty” was as named the best science fiction book of 2013 by the American Library Association.

Launch Hampton Roads, a program that provides entrepreneurship training to low-income and out-of-work residents, will host an information session Thursday morning at the Williamsburg Regional Library located in Toano. From 10 a.m. to noon, guests can learn more about the program and how to apply. Click here to learn more about Launch Hampton Roads’ second year of instruction.

Swashbuckling

Bring your peg leg and parrot to the Family Pirate Palooza, on Friday evening at the Watermen’s Museum. Starting at 6 p.m. there will be music and entertainment, along with a performance of the “Hysterically Correct Pirate show.”

Live Music

Thursday is open mic night at Aromas in Williamsburg. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. for daring performers or their spectators.

Hear live jazz every Saturday at Prime46forty. A variety of local groups perform weekly, starting at 9:30 p.m.
