Art and Literature
2nd Sundays comes to downtown Williamsburg, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on the 400 and 500 block of Prince George Street. The monthly arts and music festival features more than 75 creative artisans, local authors, kids art projects and two areas of live music.
Nine local authors who published books after age 40 will discuss their writing and careers at Literary Late Bloomers. The free talk starts at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Patricia Schell Memorial Meeting Room of the Williamsburg Regional Library.
Theater and Film
StageLights, a summer musical theater program for local children, presents “Circus Olympus” this weekend. The show highlights the older members of StageLights in a comic look at Greek tragedies, with performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Williamsburg Regional Library theater. Bring the youngsters to watch a flick on Friday night at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Movies Under the Stars starts at 8:30 p.m. and is slated to show “Frozen.” The free event is presented by James City County Parks & Recreation.
Music
Sing under the stars at Karaoke in the Park. James City County Parks and Recreation sponsors the free program, which starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Chickahominy Riverfront Park.
Local guitarist Louis Vangieri will present an afternoon of acoustic music for those stopping into the William & Mary Bookstore on Duke of Gloucester Street on Sunday. He will perform a blend of acoustic covers and original works, starting at 1 p.m.
A concert Sunday afternoon at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church will include classical and contemporary pieces by the Bell Canto Quartet, Carina Sturdy on organ, and soprano Kelly Monteith. The program is free and open to the public, but a freewill offering will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Music starts at 3 p.m.
Get Moving
Get your wheels turning at the Park-to-Park Bike Tour, this Saturday morning. The James City County Parks and Recreation event pedals off from Chickahominy Riverfront Park with rides from 15 to 62 miles. The tour starts at 7:30 a.m. for riders doing a 62-mile loop, with the 30-mile starting at 8 a.m. and the 15-mile family ride at 9 a.m.
