Every Thursday is Open Mic Night at Aromas Coffeehouse & Café, starting at 7:30 p.m. If you’re not brave enough to perform, you can order dinner, dessert or a beverage and watch others display their talents.
Dance the night away with dad at Big Brothers Big Sisters Fathers Day Dinner Dance Concert on Friday night. The event at the Doubletree by Hilton at Kingsmill will feature live music, food and dancing to benefit the mentorship organization for children. The event starts at 6 p.m.
Listen to The Hark while sipping on craft beers from 10 different breweries at Saturday’s New Town Summer Fest. There will also be a corn hole tournament and food from local restaurants, starting at 1:30 p.m. at Sullivan Square. Read more about New Town’s year of programs in the Hometown section.
All the World’s A Stage
The Williamsburg Players continues their run of the musical “Into the Woods” this weekend, with shows at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. With music by Stephen Sondheim, the story follows favorite storybook characters in dark comedy. All performances will be at the Williamsburg Players playhouse on Hubbard Lane.
For children’s entertainment, the Williamsburg Players present the lighter “Amazing Adventures of Chessie the Manatee” at 11 a.m. Saturday at their playhouse. The puppet musical tells the story of a manatee who wanders into the Chesapeake Bay at the creatures he encounters, using 47 life-size puppets of marine wildlife.
Explore the Outdoors
James City County Parks and Recreation is hosting a themed weekend of activities, games and contests at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, kicking off Friday and running through Sunday. There will be sand volleyball, whiffle ball, corn hole, horse shoes and more. Guests can come play for the day or camp all weekend.
Capture the scene with a ranger/photographer guided hike on Saturday morning at York River State Park. Starting at 8 a.m., the group will photograph wildlife and landscapes. The hike is open to all levels of experience and types of cameras.
