Locals will be swinging for charity with two upcoming golf tournaments. Ford’s Colony will host both events, one that honors the memory of a woman who lost her life to breast cancer and another that supports health services for those in need.
Breast Ball Golf Tournament

Shae Nicole Jarrett was a young mom when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 29 years old. She and her husband lived in Williamsburg with their 17-month-old daughter.
Jarrett connected with the Beyond Boobs!, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young women diagnosed with breast cancer and providing breast health education for all. She was featured in their “A Calendar to Live By 2012,” where she shared how much her husband’s support and strength helped their young family face the challenges of facing breast cancer.
Jarrett died in January, just before her 34th birthday.
This year’s benefits Breast Ball Tournament – a Beyond Boobs! fundraiser in its seventh year – is dedicated to Jarrett. Her husband Chuck will attend this year’s event and hit the opening drive to kick off the tournament in honor of his wife.
Beyond Boobs! expects about 300 golfers in best-ball format tournament. Players tee off at 1 p.m. Friday at Ford’s Colony Golf Club. Last year’s event raised about $40,000 for Beyond Boobs!, with 256 golfers participating in the fundraiser.
“We had such a great time last year at the Breast Ball tournament,” said Beyond Boobs! co-founder Mary Beth Gibson in a news release. “It is truly a FUNdraiser that supports the women of Beyond Boobs! and our mission to educate everyone about breast health.”
Registration is $125 for individuals and $500 for a team of four, which includes dinner, drinks and an after party.

Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center Golf Challenge
In 18 years, members of the Men’s Golf Association at Ford’s Colony have raised more than $615,000 to help deliver quality medical and dental services. The Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center Golf Challenge supports the nonprofit, which provides more than 1,350 medical and dental patient visits per month to greater Williamsburg’s uninsured and medically underserved residents.
With the help of many volunteers and organizers, the event is the largest private source of funds for OTMDC.
This year’s event will be May 8. While there are no slots remaining for golfers, there are still opportunities for sponsors. For more information about contributing, click here or contact OTMDC at 259-3258.
