Find out if the old watch that has been hiding in the attic is a hidden treasure.
This Friday, Williamsburg United Methodist Church will host an Antique Appraisal and Luncheon at Two Rivers Country Club at Governor’s Land.
In a local version of the television program “Antiques Roadshow,” WUMC will host appraiser William G. Hodges. Hodges will offer his expert opinion on objects brought in – from the family heirloom to the garage sale impulse-buy – and will also give an informal appraisal in writing.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and includes a basket raffle.
There will be a lunch of soup, chicken entrée and dessert, as well as coffee, tea and a cash bar.
Tickets are $30 per person, which includes lunch and appraisal for one item. If time allows, additional pieces can be appraised for $5 each.
Proceeds benefit the Respite Care Center at WUMC.
Respite care provides a social environment for seniors with special needs in a safe and secure setting. In addition to offering time off for caregivers, the program benefits seniors physically and emotionally through a wide range of enrichment activities. A trained team leads the group through crafts, educational talks, music, gardening, exercise, games and discussions.
The center is open from 11:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and WUMC has a scholarship fund for those who cannot afford the $50 per day price for care.
Tickets for Friday’s luncheon are limited.
