Local Veterans Honored at YMCA

R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA recently hosted a Valentine’s Day Appreciation Program for local veterans. To express gratitude for their service, YMCA members distributed homemade Valentine’s cards, served refreshments and learned about service member’s unique memories.
Guest speaker Mark Maggio, a retired Lt. Colonel and logistics officer at Fort Eustis, shared personal stories with members from the YMCA as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars who gathered.
New Town Langley Credit Union Receives Clean Business Award

The James City Clean County Commission has chosen the Monticello branch of Langley Federal Credit Union as the winner of the James City Clean Business Award for the first quarter of 2014. The Monticello branch was selected as a result of their document recycling and beautification efforts.
The Award was presented at the Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum on Feb. 20.
Established in 1979, the James City Clean County Commission is a coalition of local volunteers appointed by the Board of Supervisors. They are dedicated to promoting recycling, litter control, providing environmental education and helping to coordinate county beautification projects. Emily’s Donuts & Café Celebrates Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening
A family-owned business marked a successful first month with a ribbon cutting and grand opening event Tuesday. Emily’s Donuts and Café – named after owner Jim Yates’ daughter – opened Feb. 1, offering daily-made yeast donuts, homemade pies, espresso beverages and Baltimore Coffee and Tea.

The restaurant is open from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a lunch menu of pot pies and salad from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pecan, peanut and cinnamon walnut pies are offered daily but for any other of the more than 25 sweet or savory pies, Emily’s Donuts & Café requests customers call and pre-order one day in advance.
Yates is a longtime business owner, previously of Yates Fire Protection.
Chesapeake Investment Group Announces New Chief Investment Officer
Richard L. Ware, CFA will be joining Chesapeake Investment Group as its new Chief Investment Officer. In that role, Ware will oversee asset management for individual, family and institutional clients, lead the firm’s investment team, and enhance Chesapeake’s investment process and strategy.

Ware brings to Chesapeake Investment Group more than 30 years of investment and wealth management experience. A Chartered Financial Analyst for almost 15 years, Ware is also the current president of the CFA Society of Virginia.
