Car Club Donates to Wounded Warriors Organization
The Classic Cruisers Car Club presented a check to the Gathering of Mountain Eagles, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that supports wounded military members and their families. The $1,000 award was presented at one of October’s weekly Saturday Night Cruise event in Grafton.
The funds were raised during cruise-ins held in September by the club. The cruise-ins showcase late model, classic, hot rods, and show cars and trucks, and are held weekly from April to October to raise money for local charities.

CASA Volunteers Inducted
On Oct. 31, the Fall 2013 class of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) were inducted at the Williamsburg-James City County Court House. Juvenile and Domestic Relations Honorable Judge George C. Fairbanks IV swore in Bill Cripe, Hope Venus, Martha Kelther and Bill Herman.
The volunteers will serve as a voice for abused and neglected children in the juvenile justice system. CASA volunteers provide advocacy services within the courts and communities to ensure the safe future of children.

Artist Honored by Masonic Lodge
Williamsburg Masonic Lodge and The Grand Lodge of Virginia has honored retired Army officer Rice Trolan with the Community Builders’ Award. Louis Kerford Campbell, Grand Master of Mason’s in Virginia presented the award to Trolan for his contributions to art in Williamsburg.
Trolan, a World War II veteran, taught art to prisoners in the Regional Jail for more than 12 years with This Century Art Gallery.
As part of the celebration for the 1788 Founding of the Grand Lodge of Virginia in Williamsburg, Trolan donated one of his paintings, a Williamsburg Lodge portrait, to the organization. It is the first of 100 limited edition prints of the watercolor; the other 99 will be available for sale to support the Lodge’s historic building repair and maintenance fund.
TowneBank Underwrites Fall Grant Award Ceremony
The Williamsburg Community Foundation held their Fall Grant Award Luncheon, where they awarded more than $52,000 to local nonprofit organizations. Ninety people were in attendance.
TowneBank supported the luncheon. Since 2004, the bank has donated a total of $20,000 to aid the foundation’s community building efforts in greater Williamsburg.

Seaford Elementary School Auctions Wreaths for Cancer Research
The Relay for Life team at Seaford Elementary School in York County raised more than $400 for cancer research Oct. 29. Each class submitted a wreath to be auctioned off at Pizza and Pumpkins night, hosted by the PTA.
