This weekend’s Walk to Cure Diabetes holds special meaning for one local dealership group.
Steve Sparkman, General Manager of Casey Kia, has a nine-year-old daughter with Type 1 Diabetes. His dealership helping to support the 2013 Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes in Yorktown on Saturday.
Sparkman’s daughter Swayne was diagnosed in August 2010, and her parents have faced the difficulty of raising a child with diabetes. They hope to end the suffering for all those living with diabetes and ease the burden to caregivers.
The walking team Swayne’s Purple Lady Bugs is in Sparkman’s daughter’s honor, and is a step in the fight against diabetes. Casey Kia donated a portion of the proceeds from every car sale during October to the team.
Sparkman is also a member of the Board of Directors for JDRF.
Casey Auto Group, which includes Casey Kia and six other area car dealerships, is sponsoring Saturday’s Walk. Casey Auto Group is a longtime lead sponsor for the Walk and supports the JDRF’s Annual Hope Gala as well.
The Walk to Cure Diabetes will start at 9:30 a.m. York High School, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.
There is no registration fee, but walkers are encouraged to support the event through fundraising or by making a personal donation.
