Prince George Art & Frame hosts “Art by the Kids in Buddy Art”
Buddy Art is a program of art activities for children with special needs and/or physical disabilities. Children who participate are assigned “buddies” to explore a variety of art materials and themed projects.
The free program is sponsored by This Century Art Gallery in cooperation with James City County Parks & Recreation and student volunteers from the College of William & Mary.
The show opened Oct. 19 with a reception honoring the artists and their buddies.

“The Flora of Virginia Project” at Gloucester Arts on Main
This exhibition presents the first comprehensive survey of more than 3,000 plant species native to Virginia. Originally chartered by colonial botanist John Clayton in his publication Florica Virginica, the Flora of Virginia Project provides a critical history since his 1792 work. It chronicles the emergence and development of identifying numerous native plant species up to the modern day.
A groundbreaking of the Pocahontas Memorial Gardens kicked off the exhibition on Oct. 12. The planting of the gardens will be complete by the end of fall 2013, and will feature numerous flora listed in documents from Clayton.
“The Flora of Virginia Project” will include a sample of 1,400 illustrations that accompany that plant information. The project’s 1,572-page book, Flora of Virginia, will accompany it.

ArtCafé26 presents “Emerge” by Anne Fleury
Anne Fleury is an abstract contemporary artist from Toulouse, France, who has earned solo exhibitions in Paris, London, Toulouse, Barcelona and Tournay, Belgium.
Fleury’s preferred media are canvas and paper, but has experimented with many materials. The ArtCafé26 exhibition features mixed-media pieces.
“Abstraction is a field open to all possibilities. No recognizable image distracts from the larger question of the void,” Fleury said about her work in a news release from ArtCafé26.
