City Council Retreat
At the Williamsburg City Council retreat Saturday, council members fleshed out some of the details of a proposed new Stryker Center. The center would serve as, among other things, an expansion to the Williamsburg Regional Library under the direction of John Moorman.
During the retreat, attendees got a better picture of what that space would look like. As it stands, Moorman said a 1,650 square-foot foyer would serve as exhibition space for the library. It could also be home to city artifacts that are now in storage.
Council members also talked about the expectations for the new city council chambers. They want the space to be able to serve as both chambers and a community auditorium. It means, among other things, orienting the rooms a certain way and installing video equipment.
The council also discussed more interior options, exterior aesthetics and whether to build a second story on the building. The full story is online now.
Youth Basketball League Registration
To those wanting to join the city’s Youth Basketball League: the wait is over. Registration opened this week. Participants can sign up in person at the Quarterpath Recreation Center, online at Williamsburg.gov/rec or by traditional mail using the center’s 202 Quarterpath Road address.
The registration deadline for boys aged 6 to 12 years old and girls aged 6 to 13 years old is Sept. 30. For boys aged 13 to 17 years old, the deadline is Nov. 22. To be considered in one of the age brackets, each player must have been that age as of Sept. 1.
