A crazy football game at Dre’Bly Field in Norfolk ended in triple overtime as Norfolk Christian edged Hampton Roads Academy, 42-41, on Friday night.
With HRA (1-1) trailing Norfolk Christian 29-21 late in the fourth quarter, the Navigators tied the game on a two-point conversion pass from Duncan Wingfield to Quincy Mock that followed Trey Critides 79-yard kick-off return for a touchdown.
Both teams scored in the first overtime but failed to convert the extra-point attempt.
After neither team scored in the second overtime period, HRA answered first in the third OT on Wingfield’s 10-yard touchdown run that put the Navigators ahead 41-35 following another missed extra point.
Norfolk Christian tied the game on Nick Early’s 10-yard touchdown run and then clinched the victory on placekicker Courtney Ballou’s successful PAT.
The Navigators (1-1) will face Quantico at home next Friday afternoon.
