DMV2Go Returns to York County on Aug. 20
Mark off Aug. 20 on your calendar, because that’s when the Department of Motor Vehicles will save you the hassle of a visit to their office by setting up a mobile site at Yorktown Library.
DMV2Go offers all the services you can get at a DMV office, including applying for or renewing your driver’s license. The service runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Virginia Symphony Orchestra to Play Yorktown Show
The Virginia Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Benjamin Rous will perform the 17th annual outdoor concert at Riverwalk Landing at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31.
Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to arrive early with lawn chairs and a picnic basket. The most creative picnic setup will be judged by a just-for-fun blue ribbon committee. At 6 p.m., the Fifes and Drums of York Town will perform a pre-concert show.
Contributions from organizations, businesses and individuals fund the show, along with sponsors such as York County, the York County Arts Commission and the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The volunteer Celebrate Yorktown Committee annually raises $26,000 to help fund the concert.
Plan on arriving early as parking lots in Yorktown are expected to quickly fill. Limited handicapped parking is available in the lower level of the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace.
York Supervisors Need Applicants for Colonial Behavioral Health Board
The York County Board of Supervisors is looking for applicants for the Colonial Behavioral Health Board to fill future vacancies.
The regional board provides administration and coordination of mental health, mental retardation and substance abuse programs. Meetings are at 4 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Colonial Behavioral Health office located at 473 McLaws Circle.

York Supervisors Seek Applicants for Historical Committee
Applicants are needed for future vacancies on the York County Historical Committee.
All county citizens are invited to apply. The committee serves as an advisory body to the Supervisors on matters of historical significance.

York Libraries Hosting Literary Basket Fundraiser
The York County Public Library Foundation is hosting the first annual literary basket fundraiser throughout August, with a slew of gift baskets that should appeal to almost everyone.
The gift baskets have already been displayed at Tabb Library and will then be on display at Yorktown Library through Sunday. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. You can purchase tickets at the libraries or at the York County Library Foundation’s website.

Senior Center Accepting Registrations for Zumba Classes
The Senior Center of York is now accepting registrations for an 11-week Zumba course that will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays starting this week through Oct. 17.
Anyone age 55 or older can sign up for $33. Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program. You can register at the Senior Center of York or at the office of York County Parks, Recreation and Tourism in Grafton.

Riverwalk Landing to Host Military Band Concert Series Throughout August
York County has partnered with the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band, the U.S. Fleet Forces Band and the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band to present the Military Band Concert Series at Riverwalk Landing.
The Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble will perform Aug. 13. That group is part of the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band. The group plays jazz, blues and funk music.
The next concert is Aug. 20 by Blue Aces, a musical duo who play a variety of musical styles in venues as small as dinners and as large as state fairs and festival crowds.
The final concert features the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band on Aug. 27. The group will perform New Orleans jazz, including Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton and King Oliver.
All concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Free parking is available in any of the public parking lots around Yorktown. For more information, call 890-3500.
