Planning Commission to Meet
The James City Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday for a regular meeting.
The commission will hold four public hearings on:
- Rezoning property to allow construction of 28 homes in the Wellington section of the Windsor Ridge neighborhood
- Proposed changes to the county’s zoning ordinance, including adding and deleting a number of uses from the county’s industrial zone
- Allowing a seasonal flea market on about 0.2 acres in an existing building on a piece of property at 9299 Richmond Rd. in Lanexa
- Installing drainage improvements, landscaping and fencing at the Jolly Pond Road county convenience center

JCC Business Recycling Survey
The James City County Environmental Coordinator’s office created an online survey to understand county businesses’ recycling needs.
The survey – consisting 17 questions that should take a few minutes to complete — is available here.

Non-Styrofoam Plastic Recycling Change
James City County’s three Convenience Centers are only accepting plastics #1 and #2. Previously, the county announced plastics #3 through #5 and #7 were being accepted and they are not.
The curbside recycling program accepts plastics #1 and #2 with a neck.
Styrofoam –plastic #6—is not currently accepted for recycling with the county.
Plastic caps and cap rings can be left on recycled bottles. Containers do not need to be washed out. Plastic motor oil containers and used pizza boxes cannot be recycled.
The Convenience Centers are located at 1204 Jolly Pond Rd., 107 Tewning Rd. and 185 Industrial Blvd.

Understanding Rural – Expert Panel
James City County and the Virginia Cooperative Extension hosted a panel of Virginia experts to discuss forestry, farming, agri-tourism and local foods on June 26. A recording of the “Understanding Rural” panel will be available starting July 8 on the County’s YouTube channel and on a DVD available at both the James City County Library and the Williamsburg Regional Library.
Two “Thinking Rural” discussion sessions are scheduled for July. The first session will start with refreshments at 6 p.m., followed by a discussion at 6:30 p.m. on July 17 at Stonehouse Elementary School at 3651 Rochambeau Dr. The second session will begin with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by a discussion at 8 a.m. on July 18 at the James City County Recreation Center at 5301 Longhill Road.
