Hometown: Avalon Gets a Helping Hand from Local Groups

Kappa Delta sorority members present a check to Gabrielle Jones, an Avalon board member.

Avalon: A Center for Women and Children recently received funds, items and volunteer assistance from three local organizations: Kappa Delta Sorority at William & Mary, the William & Mary Black Law Student Association, and Members of Kiwanis of Colonial Capital.

Avalon is a nonprofit that provides shelter and support to those experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault in the greater Williamsburg area.

Each year, Kappa Delta Sorority hosts an all-day campus golf event using teams that play golf around campus with tennis balls and clubs, while wearing fun costumes. Avalon is one of the charity beneficiaries of this Kappa Delta fundraiser, and the sorority presented a check for over $7,800 to the local nonprofit.

Also, the college’s Black Law Student Association had a tremendously successful Avalon Wish List Drive.

Members of Kiwanis of Colonial Capital recently spent the day at Avalon pruning and cleaning the grounds and getting things ready for spring.
