Hometown: Hospice House Names New Development Director

Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg recently named Janet Reid as its new Director of Development.

Reid joins Hospice House after almost four years as Director of Advancement at Williamsburg’s Walsingham Academy where she was in charge of developing Board of Trustee, donor, parent, and volunteer relations. Her other responsibilities included fundraising, grant writing, staff supervision, and annual fund cultivation and marketing.

“I am pleased to have Janet join our Hospice team,” said Hospice House Executive Director Linda Taylor.  “She brings a new enthusiasm and fresh eyes to our development efforts. I look forward to working with her.”

Reid is excited to start in her new role at Hospice House. “I am energized by the passion and enthusiasm of the Hospice staff, the Board and the volunteers,” she said. “It is wonderful to be a part of an organization which is firmly committed to providing quality care and compassion for those who need HH services.

“As Director of Development, I hope to raise awareness of the numerous programs offered and to raise support for our organization.”

Reid previously worked as Assistant Director of Development at Child Development Resources, and she also worked in event planning at both the Alumni Society of the College of William & Mary and the Kingsmill Resort and Conference Center. She graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1994.

Hospice House is the area’s only nonprofit hospice and all services are offered without charge. The facility offers 24-hour end-of-life care by trained staff and is available to residents of Williamsburg, James City County, and the Bruton District of York County.

Hospice House also offers support to patients who wish to remain at home, including respite for caregivers, assistance with transportation, equipment and supplies, and spiritual care and support.  Families continue to receive support after the death of a loved one through bereavement counseling and support group activities.

Over 2000 individuals have received care either on-site or in the privacy of their homes since 2002.
