Sydney Stoddard, a sixth-grader at Hornsby Middle School, is the winner of the 2013 Kingsmill Championship Junior “Tee” Shirt contest.
In February, students were invited to figure out a creative way to combine the James City County logo, the LPGA Tour logo and the Kingsmill Championship logo into a T-shirt for the tournament.
Students from 15 Williamsburg James City County Schools between the ages of 5 and 17 entered to win. The Kingsmill Championship, James City County and the School Health Initiative Program (SHIP) worked together to conduct and judge the contest.
“SHIP was thrilled to partner with the Kingsmill Championship and James City County on such a fun contest,” said Janice Kailos, Coordinator for Community Wellness Services with SHIP. “It was exciting to see all of the amazing designs our WJCC student’s created.”
Stoddard’s design will be featured on the junior “tee” shirt, which will be given out to all junior golfers during the James City County Junior Clinic. The clinic will be held May 4 at the Kingsmill Championship. Stoddard will also receive a prize package including tickets and merchandise for creating the winning design.
The Kingsmill Championship is being staged April 29 through May 5 at Kingsmill Resort’s River Course. The top women golfers in the world will compete for the $1.3 million purse in this 72‐hole, stroke play tournament.
