Hometown: Free Flute and Guitar Performance

The Williamsburg Music Club is hosting a free flute and guitar performance by two professional musicians at its meeting this month.

Classical guitarist Clifford Morris and flutist Margaret Carlson, both Williamsburg residents, will collaborate in a unique program of flute and guitar music on Feb. 20.

Carlson will perform the luminous and dreamlike flute music of Julliard graduate Elizabeth Brown. Morris will perform a guitar solo by Andrew York, who brings the cultural expression of classical music to his compositions.

Carlson received a degree in Flute performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. She performs on both the modern and baroque flutes and is well-known locally as the founder, artistic director and music director of the Flute Frenzy chorus.

After graduation from the Hartt School with a degree in Classical Guitar, Morris studied at the Segovia Master Class in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Morris has played in Broadway shows, recorded on gold records, played radio and television commercials and film scores, as well as composing for the soap opera “Another World.”

The Feb. 20 meeting of the Williamsburg Music Club will begin at 10 a.m. with coffee and conversation, followed by a brief business meeting. The flute and guitar performance begins at 11 a.m. The event will be held in the Bruton Parish building on Duke of Gloucester Street in downtown Colonial Williamsburg.

The program is free and open to the public.
