Hometown: Jamestowne, Yorktown Battlefield Offer Free Admission Monday

Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield will offer free admission Monday to celebrate the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr. Jamestowne will also offer a special birds of prey program Monday.

All National Park Service (NPS) sites are honoring the special day across the country by offering free admission. Colonial National Historical Park is an NPS site, and includes both Historic Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield.

On top of the free visit, Historic Jamestowne will provide visitors with a special opportunity to learn about various birds of prey. The Busch Gardens Animal Ambassador Team will present a program that will feature two live Eastern Screech Owls, a Harris Hawk and an American Kestrel. The program will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Historic Jamestown Visitor Center.

Following the program, a park ranger will be available to help visitors view one of Jamestown’s active eagle’s nests from the Visitor Center parking lot. Spotting scopes will be made available for viewing the nest.

Historic Jamestowne is jointly administered by the National Park Service and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (on behalf of Preservation Virginia), and preserves the original site of the first permanent English settlement in the New World.

Yorktown Battlefield interprets the final major battle of the American Revolution, the victory of General George Washington’s army which secured independence for the U.S.

The Colonial Parkway links the sites across 23 miles, and is recognized as an “All-American Road.”
